Pregnant woman killed in crash

A pregnant woman has been killed in a serious accident north of Timaru this afternoon.

Two vehicles collided near the intersection of State Highway One and Divans Road, 5kms north of Timaru.

The pregnant 24-year-old Timaru woman was killed as a result and her husband who was driving was thrown from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries. Their two children aged 4 and 5 were in the back seat and have been treated for minor injuries.

A Garden City Helicopter, three ambulances and a number of police attended the crash.

Diversions were in place on State Highway 1 north of Washdyke, near Timaru Airport.

It is the second fatality of the Labour Weekend after a young woman passenger was killed when the car she was in rolled on Plateau Rd at Reporoa about 8.15pm last night.
