A New Zealand woman killed by a falling tree branch in London last weekend will be farewelled in Auckland on Thursday.

Erena Louise Wilson, 31, from Wellington, was walking through Kew Gardens in southwest London with friends last Sunday, when she was hit by a Lebanese cedar branch.

Ms Wilson was living in London where she worked.

Her body has been brought back to New Zealand for a funeral at the Fountains Memorial Chapel in Papakura on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Auckland City Mission.

A death notice said she was the "dearly loved daughter of Elizabeth and Chris (Paddy) and sister of Daniel and Dean''.

"Her gentle caring nature touched so many hearts. As long as we speak her name she will forever be with us.''

There will also be an informal gathering for family and close friends at the same chapel on Wednesday from 5-6pm.
