Police have named a 52-year-old man who died in a suspected homicide in Lower Hutt last night.

Michael James Mulholland was found unconscious by a friend in a driveway in Farmers Crescent, Taita at 10:15pm yesterday.

Friends and emergency services attempted CPR but he could not be revived.

Several houses on Farmers Crescent display signs of Mongrel Mob affiliation and reports have linked Mr Mulholland to the gang.

Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson said an initial examination showed Mr Mulholland had suffered facial injuries.

More information on how he died would be available after a post-mortem examination was carried out today, he said.

A team of 25 police were working on the homicide investigation into the death.

Forensic specialists were assisting with a scene examination in the area where he was found.

Police appealed for anyone who was near Farmers Crescent between 8pm and 11pm last night to come forward.
