Internet millionaire Kim Dotcom has become the unlikely poster-boy for seatbelt safety.

Dotcom has posted dramatic car-crash photos of himself on Twitter from an accident in 1996 .

One photo shows a mangled car with Dotcom's comment: "In 1996 I almost died. 250kph crash. No seat-belt. A miracle. That's when I decided to start living."

Another shows a seriously injured Dotcom lying on a stretcher with an oxygen mask.

"Shortly after the crash. Still have plates and screws in my body. Metal detectors love me :-)"

Well known for his love of fast cars and the infamous Gumball Rally, Dotcom changed his attitude towards driver safety after the crash.

"Every day is a gift. Wear your seat belt. Have children. Ignore haters. Enjoy life."
