Owners of properties in Christchurch's quake-hit residential red zone are being reminded to redirect their mail from the date they settle the sale of their property to the Crown.
The build-up of mail in letterboxes of vacant residential red zone properties has raised concerns that it can be a signal that properties are unoccupied, and may attract opportunist crime.
New Zealand Post will stop deliveries to the properties from the settlement date, which is when the former owner is required to move out by.
Today, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (Cera) reminded homeowners that arrangements need to be made for mail to be redirected from this date.
Property owners who have already settled with the Crown and moved out of their property should check that their mail is being redirected.
For more information and to organise redirection, visit a Post Shop or check out the website.
