Police have arrested six men - including a 15-year-old - for the brutal life-threatening attack of a man in Napier early on New Year's Day.
Luke Brown, 24, was beaten, stabbed and left for dead following the attack in the suburb of Marewa, about 2am.
A 400mm bladed knife was later found near the attack scene.
Detective Sergeant Emmet Lynch of the Napier CIB said five men have been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful assembly, assault with a weapon and assault with intent to injure.
A 20-year-old, 19-year-old, 17-year-old, two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old will appear in the Napier District Court this afternoon.
"I would like to thank the local Napier community for their assistance during this enquiry and particularly those involved with the first aid assistance rendered to Mr Brown who suffered life threatening injuries," Detective Sergeant Lynch said.
"The victim and his family are very pleased with this development and look forward to finally resolving this traumatic event."
