An alleged 'peeping tom' has been arrested in a Christchurch chain store.

Police in Christchurch were called to The Warehouse this afternoon where a man was found by staff looking at women in changing rooms.

Sergeant Lindsay Turner of the police southern communications centre said the 40-year-old man had been watching women in fitting rooms and was not in custody.

A Warehouse store manager said staff had been suspicious the man has been looking at women in changing rooms but had struggled to prove it.

"We've been watching him for a period of time," he said.
