A man will appear in court this morning (Wed) after a stabbing victim was dumped at a Mt Maunganui service station yesterday morning.

The injured 35-year-old was dropped off from a car at the New World end of Central Parade just after 10am. The vehicle sped away.

The man was taken to Tauranga Hospital with a puncture wound to his abdomen.

Police have seized the car.

A 29-year-old Mt Maunganui man will appear in Tauranga District Court today on a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said police were still trying to establish where the stabbing took place.

"It wasn't at Central Parade," Mr Turner said. "Anyone who may have observed some form of disturbance or altercation, particularly in the Mt Maunganui area, is asked to contact Tauranga police."
