A 49-year-old Raumati man will appear in the Porirua District Court tomorrow facing charges after Kapiti Police located a significant cannabis growing operation under his house.
Police executed a search warrant at a Raumati South address around 8.30 this morning.
"As a result, we located 66 cannabis plants growing under the house. The plants were in various stages of maturity. A dozen plants ranged in size from 50cm to 80cm and a further 54 plants were between 1.2m to 1.7m in height," said Constable Nathan Dickey.
Constable Dickey says an amount of cannabis which was drying out was also located in a bedroom of the property.
He says a sophisticated growing operation had been developed under the house where the plants were located. Police located the operation through a trap door that had been constructed in a bedroom.
"Some considerable time and effort had been put into establishing the operation. The 49-year-old man faces a charge of cultivating cannabis and further charges are likely."
Enquiries are continuing to ascertain whether anyone else has been involved in the cannabis growing operation.
