A motorcyclist has died after losing control of their Harley Davidson north of Albany on the North Shore.
Emergency services were called to accident, on the southbound lane of the Northern Motorway near the Lonely Track Road over-bridge, about 6.30am.
Police said the motorcyclist died at the scene after coming off a black Harley Davidson bike in the wet conditions.
Two of the three southbound lanes are blocked and likely to remain closed for the next two hours.
Drivers heading south should expect significant delays.
Traffic is being diverted off the motorway north of the crash along East Coast Bays Road.
The Serious Crash Investigation Unit is at the scene and police are working to clear the motorway as soon as possible.
Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the motorcycle before the accident or the crash itself. People with information should contact *555 or the Waitemata Serious Crash Investigation Unit on 09 481 0300.
Meanwhile one person has been seriously injured after two cars collided in South Auckland this morning.
Emergency services were called to the accident at the intersection of Redoubt Road and
Mill Road in Totara Park about 6am.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.
Detours are in place at the intersection of Mill and Ranfurly, and Redoubt and Murphy roads.
