An Auckland man who secretly filmed up women's skirts has been given six months community detention.
Ian Frazer, 42, was caught by a security guard at Albany's Westfield mall using his mobile phone to film underneath an unsuspecting woman's skirt.
He had pleaded guilty to 22 charges of making intimate visual recordings at an earlier court appearance.
His identity has been protected by a name suppression order until today.
Frazer's lawyer Liesje Garraway-Lina told the court he was remorseful about what happened. His actions took place over a period of two months when he was under stress and his relationship with family members had been strained, she said.
Frazer stored the recordings on his mobile phone with sexually explicit labels. There were more than 200 short videos.
Judge Nevin Dawson told Frazer the victims' were unaware the recordings had been made, but that was almost an aggravating factor.
"You filmed them by stealth....The community has a right to be protected from this sort of behaviour.''
As well as community detention, Frazer was sentenced to 100 hours community work and 12 months intensive supervision.
The judge warned Frazer if he appeared in court for this sort of behaviour again he would likely face a jail term.
