A stolen getaway car used in a brazen daylight robbery in Auckland Central has been linked to an earlier bag snatching incident.

Security guards restocking an ATM at the corner of Victoria St. East and High St were robbed at gunpoint by a balaclava-clad offender at around 12:50pm yesterday.

The offender used a stolen Subaru Legacy with the registration number BRT315 as a getaway vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was taken from Kohimarama on December 17 and used by two people who stole a handbag from a West Auckland Quicki Mart on January 19.

They have released photos of the two men taken during the theft and appealed for any information about their identities.

It was not known whether the two men had also carried out yesterday's lunchtime robbery, police said.
