A thief made off with an iPhone yesterday, only to be tracked down by the exact device he had stolen.
A man stole the iPhone from a worker at Manukau shopping centre yesterday morning, police said.
After the staff member contacted police they also went to the Vodafone store to get help in tracking the phone.
Location updates were sent from the phone to police and they were able to locate a vehicle with the stolen phone inside, police said.
After a brief low-speed pursuit police caught the man and arrested him.
The phone was found, as well as the stolen vehicle he was driving.
