An artwork worth almost $2000 has been stolen from an Auckland gallery in broad daylight.

A marble sculpture of a crushed gin and tonic can, measuring nine centimetres, was pocketed from Sanderson Gallery in Parnell on Wednesday.

The gallery's owner says the piece will be difficult to on-sell because of its very distinctive features.

A reward is being offered for the return of the work.
