The widow of failed financier Allan Hubbard says she is "as well as can be expected" after being in a head-on crash that killed her husband.
Jean Hubbard, 82, is recovering at her Timaru home after being injured in the crash about 5km north of Oamaru on September 2.
Mrs Hubbard was driving the car in which Mr Hubbard, 83, was a passenger.
The car collided with a ute driven by Nelson man Andy Earl, 40, who was also injured.
Mrs Hubbard left her hospital bed for her husband's funeral last week.
"I'm doing quite well, thank you," Mrs Hubbard said yesterday. "I've got five daughters and they are being very helpful. Two of them live quite near me, and I'm at home and living on my own now. Everything is, as far as possible, back to normal.
"I've got a broken wrist - it's my left hand fortunately - but it's preventing me from doing very much, the things I would like to do around the house. I'm a little stiff in one ankle, but otherwise I was quite unhurt so I'm okay."
"I'm as well as can be expected under the circumstances, is all I can say really."
Mr Earl said he could not remember the collision, but does not believe he was to blame for it.
He was able to speak to Mrs Hubbard after the crash, and to Mr Hubbard before he died.
Police say they are analysing the crash, and it will a few more weeks, before a decision is made on whether to lay charges.
A public memorial service for Mr Hubbard will be held on October 8 at the SBS Events Centre in Timaru.
