The wait is over. Richie McCow has made his first World Cup prediction, and it was close one.
Last week, the Herald travelled to the young bull's Northland home to get his picks for the winners of the All Blacks' four pool matches.
Richie was presented with two milk bottles - one with the All Blacks logo on it and the other with the opposition's flag.
His choice between All Blacks and Tonga was not made on the hoof. At first, the black and white calf ran to the Tonga bottle and had a good sniff of it.
But he turned around to take a long suck on the All Blacks bottle. The fact Richie milked his decision and chewed it over indicated it would be a close game, his owner Kyle Underwood told the Herald.
But the TAB disagrees - Tonga are paying $50 to win, while a punt on the All Blacks to win by more than 90 points pays $10.
McCow backed black in the Tri-Nations test against Australia - a great prediction, it was just the result that was wrong.
