An alleged hit-and-run driver handed himself in to police hours after a pedestrian was seriously injured when hit by a car in the south Auckland suburb of Otara last night.
The 23-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition in hospital, police said today.
The driver of the dark-coloured Subaru thought to have hit him went to a south Auckland police station shortly after daylight.
He not yet been interviewed, police said.
Police appealed for witnesses after the man was knocked down crossing East Tamaki Rd about 10.30pm.
The Subaru did not stop.
