A 22-year-old Hastings man is facing a $102,800 council bill and a 40-page criminal history record after allegedly tagging more than 500 properties around Hastings.
Blair Kitchen entered no plea when he appeared in Hastings District Court yesterday on four counts of criminal damage, Hawke's Bay Today reported.
Police alleged he used the words "kron" and "dots1" to tag at least 514 properties.
If the prosecution was successful he would have "a criminal history that would stretch up to 40 pages", police prosecutor Andy Horne told Judge Bridget Mackintosh.
The council was seeking up to $200 reparation to erase each tag.
Kitchen will reappear in court at the end of the month.
