A Queenstown teenager who fled leaving his friend for dead after running him over on his jetski on Christmas Day last year has been sentenced to 12 months' supervision with psychological counselling, ordered to pay $2122 for rescue costs and directed to learn maritime safety.
Jamie Scott Ridgway, 19, appeared for sentencing in Queenstown District Court on Monday after admitting endangering the life of Connor Williams, 20, and failing to assist.
Mr Williams was treated for serious facial injuries after the Kawarau River incident.

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
