A 17-year-old driver stopped in Alexandra at 4.05am yesterday had a breath-alcohol level more than seven times the legal limit, police say.
The Central Otago youth was already disqualified from driving.
The 4WD he was driving was impounded for 28 days, although it did not belong to him, Senior Constable Mike Colligan of Alexandra told the Otago Daily Times.
He recorded a breath alcohol level of 1116mcg.
The limit for a under 20-year-old was 150mcg. The adult limit is 400mcg.
He will appear in Alexandra District Court on May 4.
