Betty Irene Dickson, 82, died after the earthquake caused a brick wall to collapse on top of Wick's Fish in Worchester Street, where she was shopping.

Betty was a well-known member of the Christchurch community, having worked as the secretary for the Christchurch Golf Club and been a member of the Mt Pleasant Petanque and Garden Club.

She also read to children in schools and helped the elderly.

Daughter, Katie King, said: "She was always a positive person, who saw the magic in life and will be greatly missed."
