A hoaxer who had radio presenters in tears after concocting a story about losing his best friend in the Christchurch earthquake has received death threats.
Jobless Hayden Simonsen, 17, phoned The Edge radio station with a story about his attempts to rescue "Sarah".
But his sister contacted the station to say that the whole thing was made up.
Another sister, who asked not to be named, said: "He doesn't feel bad about what he's done, he never has and he never will. All he's worried about is getting beaten up."

Warbirds over Wanaka
Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts turned out to see some impressive aircraft in action yesterday at a preview of the Warbirds over Wanaka show this weekend. The popular event had been grounded for the past six years, partly because of Covid pandemic restrictions. This Easter weekend it returns, with a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 people set to attend today and tomorrow. Photos / George Heard
