Two more earthquakes rattled Canterbury this afternoon, part of the continuing series of aftershocks following the big quake of September 4.
Both were of much the same magnitude, at the same depth and centred in the same area northwest of Christchurch.
GNS Science said the first, at 4.48pm, measured 3.9 on the Richter scale, was 10km deep and centred 20km northwest of the city.
The second, less than two hours later, measured 3.7 on the scale.
