Rescue helicopters in the South Island were kept busy today with people in trouble in the rough weather.
Two 17-year-old men kayaking on the Orari River in South Canterbury had to be rescued when they were swept out of their boats and pulled downstream.
Two jet skiers were pulled to safety after being thrown from their jet skis in the water off Nelson.
Four people were rescued from the water 30 kilometres north of Kaikoura after the small boat they were in capsized.
And a camper became trapped on an island on the Rakaia River west of Christchurch after rain caused the river levels to rise considerably.
