The body of a teenager has been found in a creek in Wainuiomata.

Police say friends discovered the body of a 17-year-old in the creek near Rata St at about 8pm yesterday after he did not turn up for work.

He had attended a party in the town on Saturday night and was last seen at about 4am on Sunday morning.

Lower Hutt CIB Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Harwood said a scene examination and post-mortem examination were being carried out.

"We're working through the deceased's last movements before his death and speaking to people who attended the party on Saturday night."

Police were treating the death as unexplained until those investigations are complete, Mr Harwood said.

He appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
