A man has been charged with attempted murder and breaching a protection order after a serious domestic violence assault in Wellington yesterday.
Police were alerted by a member of the public at about 4.40pm about an assault at a house on Raukawa St, Strathmore.
A 42-year-old woman received cuts to her neck and face and defensive cuts to her hands and arms, caused by a knife, Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Priston said.
A 35-year-old man appeared in Wellington District Court today charged with attempted murder and two breaches of a protection order.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on November 12.
Mr Priston said police also wanted to speak with a person seen in a white van who may have witnessed the attack.
The van had a ladder on the roof and may have had some signwriting on it.
Anyone else with information was urged to contact police.
The woman has been treated and discharged from hospital.
