Police investigating the sexual assault of a woman in Tauranga early on Sunday want to speak to the driver of a van who picked her up shortly after she was assaulted.

A 19-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault on Takitimu Drive about 2.45am, police said.

Shortly after the assault the victim was picked up by a woman driving a white Toyota van and dropped off in Papamoa.

As part of investigations, police wanted to speak to the driver of the van, who was described as being a Pakeha female in her early 20s, and asked her or anyone who could identify her to contact them.
