Wellington Land Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel have found a 35-year-old motorcyclist reported missing yesterday afternoon.
Sergeant Jo Holden, head of Wellington SAR, said the Lower Hutt man was found safe and well at about 6.15pm tonight in an area of Akatarawa Forest Park known as the Devil's Staircase.
"He has told us that he flooded his bike yesterday afternoon," said Sergeant Holden. "He tried to get his bike going again before deciding to stay put for the night. He heard the Westpac Rescue helicopter overhead this morning, searching for him."
Sergeant Holden said the man is currently being taken out of the park by vehicle and will be taken back to the operations base in Upper Hutt.
