It could be at least a week before the water level in Lake Wakatipu drops below danger level and the threat to lakefront Queenstown ebbs, say local government officials.
The majority of the estimated 35 retailers who secured their premises against potential floodwater on Friday have reopened after the lake level peaked on Saturday.
