A Kaikohe toddler is in Auckland's Starship Hospital after being run over in a driveway this afternoon.

The one-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle reversing out of a driveway in the Northland rural town, acting Senior Sergeant Riki Whiu said.

Police were investigating.

Four small children have been run over in driveways in the last two months.

A two-year-old Isabella Thompson was killed when her father ran over her in their Whatawhata drive, on November 2, two weeks after a similar incident in Hamilton.

The next day, a 21-month-old girl was left with serious head injuries after being run over by a family member at Bowentown, near Waihi.
