The West Coast was shaken by two earthquakes this morning.
The quakes, in the Lord Howe Rise region about 100km northwest of Ross, both happened at 6.32am.
The first, at a magnitude of 5.0, struck at a depth of 12km, and the second, a 4.8 magnitude, at a depth of 90km.
GNS Science said the earthquakes were possibly felt throughout the South Island.
