Civilian Leonard Holmwood, shot by his neighbour Jan Molenaar during a siege in Napier last month, has spoken publicly for the first time. Mr Holmwood has been hailed a hero, which he described yesterday as humbling. "A gun being turned on unarmed people - I just couldn't allow it, it wasn't right," he told One News from Napier's Maraenui Golf Club. He was shot in the thigh.
