The 35-year-old man charged with the murder of 25-year-old James Galloway has appeared in the Taupo District Court.
Judge Munroe granted the man interim name suppression and remanded him in custody at this morning's appearance.
Mr Galloway suffered a stab wound and died just hours after proposing to his girlfriend and mother of his three children in Turangi on Saturday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Pearce of Turangi police said the death appeared to be the result of a domestic incident.
The accused will next appear in the Rotorua District Court on June 8.
