Football star David Beckham arrived at Auckland Airport to a powhiri and around 100 fans this morning.
Beckham wasn't talking to media but after several waiata and a haka performed by Te Waihono A Kupe, he hugged several fans and signed some autographs.
Avid fan Ben Buist had been waiting since 7pm "just to get a good spot".
But others such as Craig Pilcher had just come off a plane and wandered over to see what the crowd was for.
"It was a bit of a fluke, my brother is going to the game this weekend," he said.
LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena thanked the crowd and the kapa haka group for "such a fabulous welcome".
He said the team was looking forward to their visit to NZ and the game on Saturday.
The crowd then called out to Beckham and he approached some fans to sign autographs and gave one or two a hug.
Beckham shook hands with the kapa haka group before he and his team boarded a bus for Auckland.
Beckham's LA Galaxy will play an Oceania XI at Mt Smart stadium on Saturday.
