Two men have been arrested and charged with murdering 14-year-old John Hapeta in south Auckland last week.
The men, aged 23 and 21, were arrested today and charged with the murder of Mr Hapeta, who was beaten to death outside his home in Weymouth, near Manurewa, on August 12.
They were also charged with assault with intent to rob and possessing a pistol for the commission of a crime. They will appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow.
Detective Inspector John Tims said he was pleased the arrests had been made but police still needed more information about John's death.
"There are people out there that have information that we still need," he told a media conference in south Auckland.
"The two that have been arrested may have or not spoken with friends, associates about what occurred on that night, and we'd like to hear from anyone that has information.
"We would prefer these persons contact us rather than we go to them."
John died from a blow to the back of his head after two men burst into a birthday celebration for one of his friends at his home.
When asked if any weapons were recovered, Mr Tims said a number of "items of interest" were seized when two search warrants were executed.
Mr Tims said the boy's family were told of the arrests about 2.30pm today.
" This doesn't bring John back but it does give the family answers to some questions they've probably had.
"The family have been supportive of the investigation and very pleased with the result today."
Mr Tims would not rule out further charges being laid or other people being arrested.
"Police inquiries are being made to determine the criminal liability of any other parties who may be involved."
Mr Tims thanked the public for their support, saying they provided valuable assistance.
