KEY POINTS:
Police are becoming "very concerned" about the safety of two elderly rest home patients missing in the suburb of Remuera.
"It's cold and there's a few showers out there now," said Inspector William Taylor, of police northern communications.
The 79-year-old woman and 92-year-old man were last seen at 4.30pm by staff at a care facility in MacMurray Rd, Remuera.
The woman suffers from alzheimers, and the man from from dementia and deafness, and the couple have been missing before.
"They're known for going to ground inside people's properties," Mr Taylor said.
"Their mind confusion leads them to believe they're married."
The woman was lightly clad in a red/orange cardigan and navy tracksuit pants and answers to Jean. The man, Harry, was wearing a brown jacket and grey pants.
Residents in the Remuera and Newmarket areas were being asked to keep a look out for the pair and report any sightings to police, but so far more calls have been made about the police helicopter than the missing people.
"To be honest, we've more calls from that area from people annoyed about our helicopter being up there than we've had about lonely old people wandering the roads," Mr Taylor said.
He urged residents to check their properties before they went to bed.
