School blaze probed

Fire Safety is investigating the cause of a blaze that damaged a technical block at Otahuhu College yesterday. More than 40 firefighters rushed to the college about 11am when the fire broke out in the roof.

No one was hurt and the fire was soon extinguished. The deputy chief fire officer for Auckland east, Roger Callister, said fire damage was contained to two classrooms. He said the building had no sprinklers and firefighters had trouble getting a good water supply until fire trucks began pumping water from the street.

* A fire in a kitchen at 11.30 last night on the 11th floor of the PricewaterhouseCoopers building on Quay St, in the central city, was put out quickly and no one was hurt, the Fire Service said early today.
