The Royal Visit
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh leave New Zealand for Adelaide this morning. The motorcade leaves Government House at 10 am, and travels via Mountain Rd, Owens Rd, Gillies Ave, King George Ave, The Drive, Selwyn Rd, Pah Rd, Queenstown Rd, the Southwestern Motorway, George Bolt Drive and Cyril Kay Rd, arriving at the international terminal about 10.25 am.
Motorway closed
The Northwestern Motorway westbound between the Waterview offramp and the Waterview onramp will be closed from 9.30 pm until 6.30 am tomorrow so thin overlay can be laid. The same stretch will be closed tomorrow from 9.30 pm until 6.30 am on Friday. Detours will be signposted.
Traffic delays
Traffic on State Highway 1 may experience delays for the remainder of the week between Rangiriri and Ohinewai while overhead powerlines across the highway are removed.
Kevin Smith memorial
A memorial event will be held for actor Kevin Smith tomorrow in the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre. The doors open at 3.30 pm, tributes begin at 4 pm, and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Appeal help needed
Volunteers are needed to collect donations for the Safe and Sound street appeal on Friday and Saturday. The multi-agency centre will be designed for the investigation, assessment and treatment of child abuse. If you can give some time, call (09) 523-2456. Looking back
Karen Kalopulu, the family history librarian for Auckland City Libraries will give a talk on genealogy research in the Avondale Library, 93 Rosebank Rd, at 10 am tomorrow. All are welcome, especially senior citizens, and admission is free.
Auckland's direction
The public is invited to a series of meetings organised by Wake Up Auckland, to discuss the implications of the Birch report and the new direction of Auckland City Council. Tonight's meeting is in the Otahuhu Town Hall, 10 High St, at 7.30, and tomorrow's will be in the Panmure District School, 87 Mt Wellington Highway, at 7.30 pm. Fun in the Bays
Summer in the Bays heads to the reserve in Stredwick Drive in Torbay at 4 pm today. Bring the family for lots of fun and games.
