Police will tomorrow review the search for the second Hamilton fisherman still missing near Waihi after his friend was found washed up at Homunga Bay earlier this week.
The families of the fisherman last heard that the two Hamilton men had been planning to go fishing at Waihi on Sunday. They have not heard from them since.
The body of Yingbo Xu, 28, was discovered by a father and son on Sunday, but Xu's companion is still missing.
Police, Land Search and Rescue, along with help from the Surf Life Saving Club, spent day two of the search scouring the coastline north and south of Homunga Bay, with no sign of the man. The search ended at 4.30pm.
Police Search and Rescue co-ordinator sergeant Vince Ranger said the only thing police had to go on was that they believed the men had been fishing on the rocks at Homunga Bay after finding some of their belongings there.
"Whether that's where they got washed in - and I'm assuming one got washed in because that's where we found that body - we don't know what happened to the second one."
Police would spend tomorrow reviewing the search plan before resuming the search on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Ranger said they were working closely with the missing man's family.
"The family haven't heard from him and the obviously makes it a concern.
"The plan was that they were going to go fishing and that's the last they knew of what their intentions were."
