Interim name suppression has been continued for a man charged over a dramatic police chase spanning almost 20km across Auckland earlier this week.
The 36-year-old from Northland appeared in North Shore District Court today, following a brief appearance yesterday when interim name suppression was granted.
That suppression was continued today by Community Magistrate Lavinia Nathan.
The defendant did not enter a plea or apply for bail.
He was remanded in custody until his next appearance later this month, where he is expected to enter a plea.
The man faces 11 charges over a lengthy police chase through Auckland on Tuesday, which sent pedestrians and children diving for cover and kept residents holed up inside their homes as police searched for the offender.
The defendant is alleged to have stolen a car and attempted to carjack others during the ordeal. He was arrested after being found asleep in a Belmont property around 4pm by the occupants of the house.
The charges include entering a property without consent, taking a vehicle without claim, theft or car keys, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident.
