Popular US website Buzzfeed has hailed Kiwi singer Lorde as a future star whose talent should make Taylor Swift cry.
A post titled Listen To This Teen Singer From New Zealand Right Now from Buzzfeed staffer Rachel Sanders says Lorde, a 16-year-old North Shore student called Ella Yelich-O'Connor, is about to be a "very big deal".
It says her voice is "something like a cross between Adele and Ellie Goulding" and every song on her The Love Club EP is worth listening to repeatedly.
"And she writes her own songs (did I mention she's 16? Go cry yourself to sleep, Taylor Swift)," the post says.
It goes on to urge readers to start streaming Lorde's music on her website.
Lorde's first single Royals sat at number one on New Zealand's pop chart for three weeks while The Love Club EP was downloaded 60,000 times for free before going on sale on iTunes.
Her first New Zealand shows at Galatos in Auckland and Mighty Mighty in Wellington sold out within minutes.
She is signed to Universal Music, which is also home to artists such as Swift, Kanye West and Elton John.
