The winter programmes of many clubs have been badly disrupted this winter, first with the wet and cold weather and then with the bout of winter illnesses that have affected players to date.

Hopefully with the shortest day now past, things will be on the improve.

It won't be long and the summer season will open again with the Centre Opening on Sunday, September 3 at Bowls Whangarei, the home club of our Centre president.

Prior to this, the Northland Umpires Association will hold their annual fundraising winter tournament on Sunday, August 26. This is an AC Fours event and entries are being accepted by Bruce Scott - ph 435 2512.

Umpires are reminded to get their team together for this event and put in an entry please.

The Centre board is pleased to welcome two new members for the 2017-2018 season.

They would also remind clubs and members that they still have one vacancy and are also looking for volunteers for various sub committees.

Please contact the Centre office for further details and express an interest.

Thanks to all the clubs who have now provided their club pages for the Centre handbook.

If you wish to alter any sponsors, etc, you still have time to do so as we are currently in the "proof read" sector of preparation.

Centre delegates are attending a regional meeting to confirm all regional and national events for the 2017-18 season.

Changes have already been made to representation at National level with the Centre winners of open events and inter club competition having to win their respective events at a regional level before being eligible to attend NZ finals in the coming season.

Regulation changes for the Inter Club competition are also being proposed by the national body and once this investigation is completed we will advise clubs in our area of the new conditions of play.

With the first representative competitions for 2017 being held on October 7, Northland selectors have put together their winter programme of trials, coaching, etc, and we wish all prospective representative players good bowling in their endeavours.
