Four teams represented their clubs and Northland in the NZ Intercentre finals last weekend.
In division one, Kensington Women and Bowls Whangarei represented Northland.
Neither team qualified, with Kensington finishing third and Whangarei sixth.
It was the final round of the competition that decided the outcome in both competitions, with teams needing to win all of the last-round games to have a chance at qualifying.
In Division Two the Centre was represented by Maungaturoto Men and Kamo Women in the competition. Once again it was a third placing for Maungaturoto.
In the women's section, Kamo women qualified for the quarter-finals, finishing one point behind Browns Bay at the completion of section play.
In the quarters they played Allenton of Canterbury, the result of which came down to the wire. The fours team needed two on the last end to force an extra end but only scored one to lose the match 13-14.
The pairs fought back from being down earlier in the play to force a 15-all draw. In the singles Carol Neeley had to play Sandra Keith, a winner of several NZ titles and a former NZ representative. Carol lost her match, but did extremely well to win all her singles matches in section play.
In the Men's Division 1, Eastbourne (Wellington) retained their title won last year, while Hinuera (Waikato) were victorious in Women's Division 1.
Men's Division 2 was won by Sumner (Canterbury), with the Women's Division 2 honours going to Allenton (Canterbury).
At home we held the Centre 1-8 Any Combination triples event which was won by the Jenny Hardie, Trevor and Judi Moyle (Waipu) with three wins, 58 points and 29 ends.
Second were Alan Wheeler, Reece Jones and Bill Harris (Kensington) with three wins, 55 points, 27 ends, and third were Don Cameron, Kelvin Bint and Paul Shotter (Hikurangi) three wins, 52 points, 28 ends.
One team didn't turn up for this event which meant a bye came into effect, which was a disappointment as we had made the effort to find sufficient teams to hold the event.
Secondary Schools pairs tournament is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at the Kamo greens in Bush Rd. Practice play will start at 9am with competition scheduled to start at 9.30am. Competition will be completed by 2.30pm.
I could not confirm the number of entries received as at time of this going to print, as I had not received the list of entries from Sport Northland. It would be appreciated if coaches would come and give their time for this event on Friday to help the students.
