THE 1-10 Year Any Combination Triples were held last weekend, 24 teams took part at the Maungaturoto greens.
Teams skipped by Maurice Taylor (Composite) and Darren Mitchell (Kensington) went into the last round of play with three wins under their belt. Two more teams were sitting in the position of two wins and a draw.
The Mitchell combination, who were winners of the event last year, were soundly defeated by their clubmates from Kensington who until that time had only had a draw.
The Taylor combination continued on their winning way and were the only four match winner on the day. This team was Maurice Taylor, John Manly and Carol Neeley of the Maungatapere and Kamo Clubs.
The Arapohue combination of Patrick Lewis, Sharkey Brown and Jason Webb managed a win in the last round and finished in second place with three wins and a draw and 32 ends, with the Kensington/Waipu combination of Garry Fraser, Christine Budge, and Verna Clyde finishing in third place with three wins and a draw, 27 ends.
There were some very exciting and accomplished players competing in this event and the high standard reflects well on the future players of our game.
Final roundThe final round of the Inter-centre Regional Competition will be held at the Maungaturoto greens this Sunday.
Teams from Northland, North Harbour and Auckland will take part in competition for men and women. Unfortunately the Far North teams have withdrawn from this event. Auckland (women) and Northland (men) are the current leaders in this competition and it is good bowling to all our Northland players taking part. Play starts at 9am.
Awards nightThe Northland Centre Annual Prize Giving and Awards evening will be held at the Kamo Club this Saturday night. A special guest speaker will be present and about 150 people are attending this function to receive awards to support their club members who have been successful and to recognise the success of nominees in all categories for the Bowls Sports Awards for 2013-14. Winter planThe bowling season now switches to the winter bowling season.
With more and more clubs obtaining artificial greens there are bowls to be played on almost every day of the week. Winter programs for clubs are registered in the centre handbook so if you want an occasional game or a regular game every week, please check out the winter program pages of Hikurangi, Kamo, Ngunguru, Onerahi, Maungakaramea, Dargaville and Maungaturoto Clubs.
