Best of local two-day cricketers contest final

By Cameron Leslie

Northlanders in the central Whangarei area this weekend should pop over to the Cobham Oval to check out our best two-day cricketers in the final.

This weekend's final sees Northland's two-day club cricket competition come to an end as Onerahi Central take on Whangarei Boys' High School.

Northland Cricket competitions manager Neal Parlane said Onerahi and Boys' High deserved to be there and would make for an interesting few days.

"Onerahi Central has been the most consistent," said Parlane. "Since the first round [where Onerahi lost] they haven't looked back. [But] Boys' High has won three games outright."

Parlane said that while some may say this weekend's encounter will be one-sided, the pitch is good enough to ensure some good cricket is on show.

However, for the table-topping Onerahi, the word on the street was there were a few disagreements amongst the ranks.

"I hear Onerahi Central had a bit of a problem at training last night [Thursday] and a bit of miscommunication in the ranks, so it could get interesting.

"If they start badly, things can go downhill quickly."

Parlane said this year's two-day competition had gone well but had tested each club's depth

"Basically, when Northland [players] are away, some clubs get sapped of a lot of their talent and other players come in to fill the gaps."

Today's match starts at 10.30am and will continue tomorrow.
