Kaikohe Lions have plenty of work to do if they want to get back to the premiership winning side of 2010.
Coach Benson Selwyn said 2012 was a building year for his side, who have struggled in the Whangarei City and Districts Rugby League Competition.
During round seven on Saturday, the Lions were thrashed 16-70 by Hora Hora playing on their home ground, despite digging deep in the first half.

The Lions, who won the premiership for the first time in 2010, have lost numerous players over the past two years.
"We've had players retire, go overseas and to different clubs this year, so it really is about rebuilding our club," Selwyn said.
He is looking to concentrate on the junior grades next year, to nurture some of the Far North's talent.
Meanwhile, in other matches on Saturday, Takahiwai beat Wairoa 58-4, while Hikurangi thrashed Otaua 84-20.
