Celebrating markets

Farmers' markets are growing in popularity as many people now rely on using regional produce as part of their regular shopping.
There are now more than 50 farmers' markets throughout the country and the Farmers' Markets New Zealand Association (FMNZA) is about to celebrate seasonal and local goods by having a competition to find the best.
The inaugural Taste Farmers' Market Awards 2011 is looking for finest in each category of fresh, local, authentic food that is value for money.
Chairman of the FMNZA, Chris Fortune, says "the awards will put the spotlight on the very best from around the country".
Taste magazine has come on board as the main partner of the awards.
Editor Suzanne Dale said: "It was natural for us to want to champion these awards.
"Farmers' markets offer the best of seasonal produce and bring producers, consumers and communities together.
"Taste regularly features food heroes who are committed to providing top-quality New Zealand food for all of us to enjoy."
Entries for the awards open in March next year, with the winners announced in July next year.
