Traffic heading over the Brynderwyn Hills can expect delays as a new seal is laid on State Highway One.
New Zealand Transport Agency senior manager project delivery Chris Hunt said this final layer of seal will improve the road's skid resistance and improve its waterproofing to ensure a resilient and long-lasting road surface.
Work will start at 7pm tomorrow and run through until 6am Monday.
Overnight work will continue on Monday night from 7pm until 6am Tuesday.
On both nights, the road will remain open but there will be stop/go traffic management in place and a 30km/h speed limit along the 4.6km stretch of SH1.
Drivers can expect a delay of up to five minutes.
The sealing work will continue during the day on Tuesday and Wednesday between 7.30am and 5pm.
There will be traffic management in place during this work with one lane open in both directions and a 50 km/h speed limit. Delays are expected to be minimal.
Repair and resealing work on the three Mata Bridges on SH1 between Ruakaka and Oakleigh is also due to start on Sunday night and run for four nights.
The work was planned for earlier this month but was delayed due to bad weather.
Different detours will be in place over the course of the works.
On Sunday and Monday nights the detour will be via State Highway 12 on to Paparoa - Oakleigh Rd, Paparoa Rd and Mangapai Rd before rejoining SH1.
Northbound traffic heading to Ruakaka and other destinations south of the closure point will be allowed to continue on SH1.
On Tuesday there will be stop/go traffic management in place from 7pm – 9pm and a full road closure from 9pm – 5am.
The detour will be via Salmon Rd and Springfield Rd and back on to SH1.
On Wednesday there will be stop/go traffic management from 7pm – 9pm and a full road closure from 9pm – 5am.
Motorists will have two options - use Tuesday night's detour or wait on SH1 to be let through the area between resurfacing works.
Delays of at least an hour and a half can be expected.
Both sets of work are weather dependent and may be postponed at short notice.
