Jordan Priddle is gutted at losing his 1982 Mazda 323 GT just two months after buying it after a collision left it a write-off.
The Whangarei marketing executive was on his way to visit a friend in Tikipunga on Saturday evening when a stolen Subaru Impreza HX allegedly failed to give way at the MIill Rd/Nixon St intersection.
The Subaru hit Mr Priddle's vehicle and did not stop.
However, Mr Priddle noted the make, model and the registration number of the Subaru. Police have established that the vehicle had been stolen and are investigating who was driving at the time of the accident.
Mr Priddle was turning right from Nixon St into Mill Rd and the impact on the front bumper and chassis means his car is a write-off.
Mr Priddle said he was only going 30km/h to 40km/h on the sweeping corner and did not see the Subaru.
"It's a shame because it's a bit of a classic car in seriously mint condition."
He paid $2500 for it in Auckland two months ago but it only had third party insurance which means insurance won't cover thousands of dollars worth of repairs.
"It's not an expensive car but it's irreplaceable. I'll maybe get $1000 for parts if I am lucky.
There aren't many special GT model of that age, tidy and impressive that are around and now another one's gone."
He said luckily he was not driving his 1985 Toyota Levin worth $25,000 instead.
