Forensic scientists continue to investigate after two men died following a shooting at a Whangarei home.
Police were called to a house on McMillan Ave, Kamo about 1.15pm on Saturday.
One man was found dead at the property after he'd been shot. Another man, who had a gunshot wound, was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died later.
Yesterdaya section of McMillan Ave remained cordoned off with security guards monitoring traffic going in and out.
Forensic scientists from Environmental Science and Research were also at the scene collecting evidence. Police said they did not know when the forensic team would be finished.
Detective Inspector Dene Begbie said the two men were known to each other.
"Police are confident there is no ongoing threat to the public and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident," he said.
Mr Begbie said post mortem examinations were being carried out yesterdayand todayand the men's ages and names would not be released until police were sure all family had been contacted.
Tina Peters, who was with family and friends celebrating her son's 2nd birthday at a nearby playcentre on Saturday, said everybody remained inside with the doors locked.
She said a guest who left the party called to say police were telling everyone in the area to stay indoors.
Ms Peters said they weren't worried, but had planned where people could hide in the playcentre if they needed to.
Denby Ward councillor, which takes in Kamo, Crichton Christie said he heard about the "shocking" incident in the news but didn't know much about what happened.
He said he imagined people in the area would be a bit nervous.
Mr Begbie said investigations were ongoing and the public would continue to see police activity on McMillan Ave as officers continued to make inquiries.
